Returning

I miss this space.

It’s been a while.

Work, life, relationships. They all have a way of competing for the greatest piece of one’s existence.

All consuming but not the All Consuming One. All “good” things, but not the greatest One.

The Spirit doesn’t compete. A life of oneness with the Father requires complete devotion.

My prayer in this season of…

getting a new role at work

getting engaged, planning a wedding, and building a life

stepping into new roles and new seasons

…is Matthew 6:33:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

This is the verse and the promise that God gave me at the beginning of the year.

And I’ve fallen away from it.

At a time when I was experiencing my deepest spiritual growth, my greatest involvement at church, my most fruitful prayer life - I fell away.

Lord bring me back to the basics.

Distraction is a tactic of the devil to keep us from God’s divine purpose. Worldly business keeps me from my Father’s business. The antidote is to seek first His kingdom.

When the job demands more and the temptation is to work harder, stay longer, and earn their approval…seek first His kingdom. God is our true Provider and Sustainer.

When the relationship meets you emotionally and fills your cup relationally…still, seek first His kingdom. God is our ultimate source of love and acceptance.

When finances are secure, church attendance feels negotiable, and prayer feels optional…especially then, seek first His kingdom and return to God as the only One who truly fulfills and satisfies.

To seek first His kingdom is to make God and His ways our greatest desire, our first and deepest love, our most urgent priority.

When getting to work early is a greater priority than getting in the Word first, I’m not seeking first His kingdom. I need the Word before the world.

When staying at work late every week feels more urgent than being in Christian community or attending church, I’m not seeking first His kingdom. I need His house more than I need my house of cards.

And it’s not about a to-do list. It’s not about works. It’s a heart posture. What is my heart hungriest for? My posture reveals my palate. What is my spirit craving? More of God or more of the world and its medals?

Can I challenge us to study Matthew 6:33 together and chat about what God spoke to us? I’ll study and share in the next post. Let’s step into a season of God over EVERYTHING - together.
